St Bartholomew's

Catholic Primary School

Admissions

St Bartholomew's Catholic Primary School is a very popular, happy school.

Our annual published Admission Number for Reception from September 2025 is 30 each year.

Applications for admission into Reception need to be made direct to St Helens Council. Should your child not receive a place at St Bartholomew's you need to contact school admissions at St Helens Council who will direct you through the process of appeals.

We hold tours of the school site in the Autumn term and parents are welcome to visit school, to look around and to ask questions about the way we do things here. Please note that these will be arranged in accordance with school safeguarding procedures and we may not be able to hold individual tours or schedule frequent tours during the school day.

Please try to attend one of the scheduled dates; if that is not possible please ring the school office to make an appointment for a member of the senior leadership team to contact you to arrange a visit to school.

Autumn 2024 school visit and tours (for a September 2025 admission):

  • Wednesday 9th October at 1.30pm
  • Wednesday 9th October at 4.00pm
  • Friday 15th November at 4.00pm

Primary School Places

APPLYING FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR SEPTEMBER 2025

If your child turns 4 between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025, he or she will transfer to primary school in September 2025.  From Wednesday 27 September the website www.sthelens.gov.uk/admissions is open for parents who wish to apply online.

You will be notified in April 2025 confirmation of your child's allocated school place.

The closing date for you to submit your application is 15 January 2025.

Before submitting your application, please read the Primary Parent Booklet which contains useful information about the application process, including: how places will be allocated, definition of home address and how late applications will be dealt with.

Deferred entry to primary school

Parents may request that their child's entry be deferred until later in the school year following their fourth birthday, providing they do not defer beyond the point at which they reach compulsory school age.

Children born in the summer term are not required to start school until a full year after the point at which they could first have been admitted - the point at which other children in their age range are beginning Year 1. In all cases, parents will be advised to discuss any request for deferred entry with the relevant primary school.

A common application form and the primary education information for parents’ booklet will be available online via St Helens Council’s website no later than 12 September 2024. Parents will also  be able to apply for a school place online.

Why Should I Apply On-Line?

Some of the benefits of applying online are:

  • it’s quick and easy to use
  • you can apply from home 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • there is no risk of your application being lost in the post
  • you can change your preference up to midnight on the published closing date
  • you will receive an email confirmation that your application has been received
  • the offer of a school place will be sent via email so you do not have to wait for the post

If you wish for your child to transfer to us in-year, you will need to contact the Local Authority in the first instance.

Thank you for visiting our website. Please look at our school X account (formerly known as twitter) to capture a day in the life of St Bart's.
