Design Technology

Our Design Technology Curriculum:

'Design is an iterative process, where mistakes are embraced and solutions are refined.'

David Carson

Our vision for design technology:

At St Bartholomew’s we are committed to providing a varied, progressive, interesting, engaging and enjoyable DT curriculum which will inspire and challenge our children, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to provide practical solutions as well as understanding the principles of nutrition and learning how to prepare simple food. Our vision is for them to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently.

The skills of a great DT student:

  • Perseverance to work hard and understand the design process.
  • The ability to identify a need and provide a solution for it.
  • To be skillful and resourceful in selecting the appropriate tools and techniques to make a product.
  • To be able to test and evaluate a product and say what they like and dislike about it.
  • To be resilient and confident enough to take risks and learn from any mistakes.
